The Pirin Mountains, a glorious glacial landscape of peaks and lakes, offers some of the finest walking in Europe . Named after Perun, the Slavic God of Thunder, over the centuries this area has attracted people with its mineral waters and 186 pristine lakes.

It is also the region where you can find most of the Southern Bulgaria 's ski resorts and hiking centers. Because of its unique nature, in 1983 UNESCO made Pirin National Park a World Heritage Site to protect the unique landscape and its species.
